Where: 10, Defence Colony Main Market
Cuisine: North Indian, Chinese, Fusion
Cost: 800 for two

I don't visit Defence Colony very often and even when I do, I usually stick to the tried and tasted eateries because of lack of expertise in that locality. The newest entry in the area , Jugaad Cafe and Bar, was definitely worth my while- and the money! It could be the place you'd want to grab a quick, but filling snack or work out of for hours. It is the kind of place where you can have a wild party with your friends or a nice dinner with your family. A special shoutout to the interiors of Jugaad- most of the things are best out of waste, old and recycled items coming together in the most artistic manner possible.

The Grub

Chilly Chana is crispy chickpea made like chilly potato, it's the best chakna you could ask for. I wasn't very impressed with Kurkure bhutta, ie, corn cobs coated with a mixture of kurkure and spices. Though high on quirkiness, it was quite plain tastewise, especially given the trouble I had to bite through it. One of my favourites from the evening, Todu Macroni burger was a brilliant take on burgers with a bun that was entirely made of deep fried macroni. The taste, crispiness and the patty were all on point if you don't mind a little greasiness. My second favourite, Vada Pao with cutting chai, was a nice mix of ingredients that you'd otherwise never expect in a Vada pao- like cheese in the vada and a spicy mayonnaise spread on the pao.

Paneer Sushi, was more pakoda than sushi but you are not allowed to mind- after all it's the 'Jugaadu Menu'. It was tasty nonetheless with a thick spicy roll of batter fried paneer.

Gulp it all down with..

..the Imli Flame, don't leave without having a glass {or like, three} of this Jugaad speciality. Served in a margarita glass with a chilli coated rim, it's got a nice kick of spices along with the tangy notes of tamarind. The Italian Smooch {Mint + Ginger Ale + Lime chunks + Coke} came a close second. When I visited, Jugaad was yet to get its bar license but now that it's got it, I have very high expectations from the cocktails as well.

The sad story of my life is that I end up stuffing myself too much that I often have to give desserts a miss. But I am looking forward to trying their much talked about Gulab Jamun Cheesecake.

What's more..

A special shoutout to the music and the kickass sound system, I could hardly keep myself from grooving while eating. The top floor works as a co-working space during the day and a private party space in evening. The smoking booth, quite amusingly has actual {toilet} pots to sit on!

You just cannot expect to see regular things on your plate at Jugaad, all the dishes have been played around with and have one or more desi elements! I was quite happy with the price point too, especially in a locality like Defence Colony. The staff is very attentive and prompt in serving as well suggesting the best from the menu.

Jugaad scores super well at all fronts and you must visit, at once!
