W For Woman's SS16 Collection: 5 things to check out

By 00:47 Wednesday, 24 February 2016 , ,

One of my favourite ethnic fashion brands, W for Woman is out with its Spring Summer 2016 collection. However, after seeing and playing around with the collection at the bloggers preview, I can say that it's not just about regular kurtas and salwars- and therefore, rightly named #TheUnusuals.

Here are the 5 things that impressed me:

#1. Stiletto kurtas

The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear 'stiletto', is something long and sleek. The kurtas in the new collection have been aptly named so, given their long length {most pieces in the collection are ankle-length} with a very subtle and body flattering A-line silhouette. I am glad that they've stayed away from flares, that are so typical of Indian ethnic wear and have tried to contemporarise kurtas.

#2. Sheer capes

Light, summery semi sheer fabrics have been used to create full length capes that can be worn over any and everything. While I usually avoid layering too much in the summers, these capes are super breezy. Bright colours combinations {think fuchsia and yellow} and Indian architectural motifs give them a very quirky touch, without taking away the desiness.

#3. Cotton Jackets

Sleeveless, short cotton jackets {like the one I am wearing in the picture} are just what you need to add a little oomph to a regular kurta. They can be worn as a top, or you could throw it over your favourite shirt or a crop top. Or even on a plain dress that could use some brightening up.

#4. Scanned Floral prints
I won't lie, guys, floral prints have been done to the point where they don't excite me anymore. However, W for Woman has tried doing them differently by mixing florals with a bit of geometric accents. The prints on the kurtas have a scanned, textured look like they've come straight out of a scanner. Expect stripes of black here and there. Floral prints are no more about cutesy patterns and bright colours and it's actually quite a bit of relief.

#5. Boho trinkets

Whether you like chunky statements or delicate chains, W for Woman has a nice mix of layered as well as single string necklaces. Expect beads of all colours, shapes and sizes. There's a certain fearlessness in the jewellery, whether it is the contrasting metallics or clashing, bold hues. There's metal and acrylic earrings too, if you're less of a necklace person. Do check out the range of bags and clutches too!

Trend notes

Minimal is the new edgy

Sheer panels, long slits, understated colour combinations- #TheUnusuals collection is a classic example of how one DOES NOT need to go overboard to stand out. I liked how versatile most garments are- you can wear your kurta as a dress and no one would know, or wear the Stiletto with palazzos {they have some really nice and fluid pairs in georgette }, denims, maxi skirts and of course, your regular churidaars.

It's all in the layers..

Carry forward your winter layering skills on to the summer with the sheer capes and cotton jackets- they won't feel too heavy on the skin, I can vouch for that.

Let's talk monies!

The price range is pretty okay- the kurtas start at INR 1099 and go up till 1699, while bottoms start at at INR 599 {for churidars} and go up to 1699 {for trousers and palazzos}. There's something for all budgets, you should definitely go and browse through #TheUnusuals!
