{ 5 Reasons } : To shop online

By 20:20 Friday, 17 April 2015

How many of you are still apprehensive about shopping online? Initially, when this phenomena had come into existence, we weren't really sure- will it be safe? Am I sure about the quality of the product? What about the sizes? Is it safe to pay by credit card? And if a particular website did not offer cash on delivery, there was simply no chance of making a purchase. This, I'm talking about the beginning of online shopping. What we have observed is that e-commerce platforms have improved our online shopping experience by fixing one loophole at a time. COD is now available across all leading websites, there's a size guide or a virtual dressing room to be sure of the sizes, there are super-flexible return and exchange policies and regular interactions with customers on social media. Yes, we don't have to hold the phone anymore and listen to that godforsaken waiting tone till the customer care executive takes our call.

This may not be true for every shopping website, and there's just too many now to be able to keep track, really. However, I'm not complaining as the customers are getting the benefit of this heavy competition. And what is really cool about Indian e-commerce platforms is that they know how to co-exist. Even if there are regular instances of sarcastic (and sometimes, hilarious) dialogues on Twitter among these competing websites, the e-commerce portals have mostly played fair.

I have grown to become a very regular online shopper because of the following reasons:

1. Comfort and convenience: If it can be done damn well from your couch, why get out in the sun, right? And there are times when I feel like "I need to see and shop So-and-so brand's latest collection" at 1 freaking AM and there's not another way to do it if it weren't for online shopping.

2. More choices: I haven't seen the last page of items in most of these websites. You can scroll all day and all night and still not get over with the list. The variety and options is insane!

3. Filters: The shopping experience becomes 10 times better with filters like price range, discounts, colours and sizes. Saves a lot of time and effort.

4. Payment options- There's usually net banking, COD, credit card payment across all shopping platforms. You can choose as per your convenience. Plus, paying by affiliated credit cards gets you some kind of discounts/reward points as well.

5. Better deals: Let's face it, we all have tried a particular piece of clothing at a store and our friend went "I have seen the same one online at a lesser price!" There was a full-fledged article in Delhi Times last year about how customers only go to branded showrooms to try out the clothes and see what size they need and then come back home to order it online. And it is ok, I guess.
