Where: 1st Floor, PVR Plaza Building, H Block, Connaught Place
Cuisine: Italian
Cost: 1500 for two

Caffe Tonino is one of the most minimally yet tastefully done up cafes in CP- the warm yellow walls and pleasant lighting will make you feel welcome. You'll notice a lot of vintage elements- retro posters, little flower pots, black and white photographs. It's spacious yet cozy- since the cafe is divided into three sections. It is also a very romantic setting- first date ideas?

Coming to the food, Caffe Tonino strives to serve authentic Italian food and succeeds as well. I was treated with some lovely home baked breads with Tomato salsa and Olive Tapenade- what a wonderful burst of flavours. I began my meal with Quinoa Salad with Bell Peppers and Sundried Tomato with a Vinegerette dressing. Pears. Rocket leaves. Citrusy. Both the salads were fresh and pretty to look at- definitely not like your average boring salads. The baked potato with cheese and bell pepper stuffing was a delight with a perfect sprinkle of Italian herbs- full marks on the presentation too! Spinach and Corn Bruschetta was pretty average, even though the bread was crisp perfectly, the toppings lacked any flavour.

Next up, I tried three varieties of the pizza- the veggie pizza with blah blah, square pizza with mushrooms and the Pizza Sandwich, which was a Caffe Tonino speciality. I was absolutely floored by Veggie. If you love mushrooms, square is perfect for you. The Sandwich stuffing was enjoyable too but what didn't make the cut for me was the Crust because of a slight yeasty aftertaste.

My absolute favourite, the star on the table was handsdown the spinach and Ricotta Ravioli in a white sauce. The sauce was piping hot and creamy with a generous sprinkle of herbs and black pepper. Do not miss this one!

The blueberry cheesecake was stellar- dense, moist and super indulgent! I was too full to try more but They've got quite a few dessert options- definitely getting me some pana cotta next time!

There were more hits than misses and I had a good time overall. Although it's a cafe, it comes very close to a fine dining experience. A 3 out of 5 for Caffe Tonino for great service and ambience, making salads fun and doing pasta right.
