It's been quite a while since I posted a food review on the blog and I may be just a little rusty. What makes this one really easy to articulate is the fact that I only have good things to say about everything I had at PizzaExpress last week. They've introduced a new, very pocket-friendly Festive Menu for the Holiday season. You get choice of soup or a starter, pizza or pasta, and a dessert at a flat rate of INR 650 (plus taxes). Given their portion sizes, this a pretty great deal. Please note that most of the images in this review are of tasting portions. Here's what I tried from PizzaExpress's new festive menu:

First up, the Mushroom Creamy Soup stood true to its name with a rich, creamy consistency and the delicious rawness of mushroom. The Pumpkin soup, with the same rich texture and a slightly sweet after-taste, was equally delightful. The accompanying Dough Diletto (bread basket) made the soup-experience even better with the super-soft dough balls and crispy garlic dough sticks.

We moved on to the Spinach Artichoke Tuffo (baked dip) with dough balls and it was a party in the mouth. The classic combination of feta cheese and spinach meets the tangy nuttiness of artichoke, complete with a drizzle of chilli oil- doesn't get any better than this.

At this point, I was pretty damn impressed by both their food and the hospitality but the best was yet to come.

Pizza Calabrese Verde is not your average pizza- a perfectly baked rectangular base comes with jalapeno, red chilli, chargrilled veggies, black olives, mix peppers, rockets and fresh mozzarella on a bed of classic, tangy tomato puree. I think I have found my new favourite pizza in the city. The crust was unbelievable, to be honest. It didn't go soggy even until we had the last slice. Highly recommended!

Next up, Cannelloni Arrabbiata is a hearty pasta dish with cannelloni pasta (like mini pasta tubes) stuffed with creamy ricotta and spinach baked in a beautiful arrabbiata sauce. A special mention to the cheesy crust on top of the baked dish- it is heavenly! It made me want to try all their pasta dishes- they clearly know what they are doing.

Wash it all down with a glass of Mulled Wine, that is, red wine flavoured with aromatic whole spices (like cinnamon, star anise, nutmeg) and citrusy notes of orange. It's served hot which makes it the perfect Christmas/Winter bev.

Unfortunately, they were out of the festive menu desserts that night but I have heard great things about the Warm Berry Crumble- CANNOT wait to try it. I went for the cheesecake and banoffee pie from the regular dessert menu and wasn't disappointed. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, their cheesecake is bang-on. I won't say much, just take my word and try it. If you're a banoffee fan, you're in for a treat. It's such a nice mix of gooey, creamy and crumbly- hits all the right spots.

I was extremely happy with everything I had and cannot wait to go back and try more from PizzaExpress. The well-lit, spacious seating, good music, and prompt service further added to my experience. Go right away!
