5 great, pocket-friendly eateries in Pondicherry

Cafe Des Arts, White Town

Pondicherry is an absolute delight for food-lovers. Almost every cafe I visited not only served great food but also had gorgeous Insta-worthy interiors. Sharing a quick list of my favourites:

#1. Cafe Xtasi, Mission Street

What to eat: Wood-fired pizzas {I ordered the 'Vegetariana' and it was easily one of the best pizzas I've ever had}, Bad-boy burgers,  Xtasi signature cocktails, and classic shakes.

Pro-tip: You can go for their half-and-half pizza where you can choose two toppings of your choice on a single pizza.

Address: Shop No.245, Mission Street, MG Road Area, Opposite VOC School
Cost: 900 for two

#2. Kasha Ki Aasha

What to eat: It's a small family-run cafe with a lovely rooftop. I loved the chocolate pancakes and the cheese-loaded dosa pizza.

Pro-tip: They've also got a boutique on the ground floor which sells pretty cotton dresses, footwear and other trinkets.

Address: 23, Surcouf Street, Near Lycee French School, SW of Bharathi Park, White Town
Cost: 700 for two

#3. Cafe Des Arts, White Town

What to eat: Probably the most popular cafe amongst the tourists. I didn't actually eat here but they had some really tempting breakfast options. I only stopped for a quick breather and really enjoyed the Green Ice Tea.

Pro-tip: There are a lot of photo-ops inside and outside this place, do not forget to take your camera along. They also have a boutique in the same complex and had some great vintage dresses and footwear on sale.

Address: 10, Suffren Street, White Town
Cost: 800 for two

#4. Le Cafe, The Promenade

What to eat: My friend and I spent the maximum time here because of the spectacular view of the rocky beach and the wide variety of food. Their lasagna is one of the cheesiest you'll ever have, do not miss!

Pro-tip: It's open 24x7 and is one of the best spots to enjoy a sunrise/sunset.

Address: Beach Road, Near Gandhi Statue, White Town
Cost: 500 for two

#5. Tanto's Pizzeria, Auroville

What to eat: There is actually no dearth of great pizza places in Pondi. Tanto's is definitely in the top three. Expect authentic Italian food and nothing less. All pizzas and pasta dishes are great and thankfully, there are plenty of vegetarian options. The service is super fast, despite how crowded the place always is.

Pro-tip: Please note that they only operate between 12:30 PM to 3 PM, and 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM everyday.

Address: Main Road, Near Iyyanar Koil Kullapalyam, Auroville, Puducherry
Cost: 1000 for two
