Lately, I have been consciously avoiding food events and restaurant reviews because nothing surprised me anymore. I felt we have reached a point of saturation when it comes to food and everything has been done. But Whisky Bar, G-Town's newest baby, has proved me wrong. As the name suggests, it is a paradise for all whisky lovers as it houses 111 precious varieties of this particular liquor, along with beers and other spirits. Whether you'd like it neat or in a no-nonsense, spirit-based cocktail, the extensive bar {longest in North India and also featuring a conveyor belt} has got you covered. The drinks I tried during the review didn't really have a name and were custom-created on the basis of flavours I like and the mood I was in. Kudos to the expert bartenders for getting it right!
Coming to the food, the menu comprises of fun fusion dishes that are bound to surprise your taste-buds {in a good way}. We started off with the Kataifi-wrapped Achari Arbi, a sinful mix of gooey, spicy and crispy. Other highlights included Chimchuri Mushroom {cheesy mushroom balls served with a tangy salad}, and Vietnamese Veg Roll {filled with the freshest veggies and served with sesame sauce}. Each dish was a treat, both taste-wise and visually. The Crispy Cottage Cheese Bao, though high on flavours, wasn't something I hadn't had before and didn't really blow my mind. I would highly recommend the Fondue and Piri Piri Greens Flatbread pizza! It's got the thinnest crust ever, with potato slices, broccoli and dollops of cheddar-feta fondue, and a delicious peppery herb seasoning. Definitely one of the highlights of my meal.
Another dish that surprised {and pleased} the Epicurean in me was the Ghenoffee Pie, a brilliant unison of crispy Ghewar as the base topped with gooey bananas, whipped cream, chocolate shavings and fresh fruits. I loved how beautifully two completely different desserts came together, without overpowering each other.
In the end, I would also like to add The Whisky Bar's interiors in the list of everything that it has gotten right. They've got a very retro-yet-futuristic vibe with an LED chandelier, elaborate wall arts, and velvet couch chairs. The decor, along with the polite and hospitable staff, just further adds to your dining experience. So whenever you're around Sector-29 next, give Whisky Bar a shot—it's SO worth it!
