Beautiful property near Shimla for your next weekend getaway

My idea of a perfect mountain getaway is one which is not very action-packed. Most of the times, I just want a nice, homely accommodation where I can enjoy some peace and quiet and experience nature to the fullest. I also dislike the idea of crowded hill stations and always try to look for their less commercial counterparts. Naldehra in Himachal is a quiet village, about 30km from Shimla, only known because of a golf course located here by the same name. It is not too isolated but far enough from the ever-bustling Shimla to give you a sense of solitude.

Not many tourists choose Naldehra because there isn't much to do or see here. There are a few temples and scenic spots at driving distance from Naldehra but since I'd already visited them all during my last visit to Shimla, my family and I decided to keep the trip super low-key. Also, the property we stayed in was so beautiful that we didn't really feel like leaving it. We went in June and all the three days it rained heavily, leaving the weather pleasantly cold.

Pristine Peaks, Naldehra by Club Mahindra is a fairly new addition to their roster and like all CM properties is tastefully designed with a very laid-back vibe. The look and feel is very colonial yet modern, complete with lush greenery all around the property. I particularly enjoyed the vintage artefacts and wall pieces kept in different nooks and corners of the common spaces. There's also an in-house spa and a fully-equipped games and activity room to make you holiday more fun.

When it comes to food, there are a few dhabas and eateries down you can count on the in-house restaurant which serves great modern as well as traditional fare. You can opt for buffet meals or choose a la carte as per your appetite. I personally enjoyed their North-Indian preparations the most.

We opted for a one-bedroom apartment and were extremely pleased with the space and facilities inside: mini kitchen, dining table, living area with sofa-cum-bed, a separate bedroom, a balcony and one bathroom. It was done up very aesthetically and was super comfortable for our family of four.

How to reach

We self-drove to Naldehra from Delhi to cover the 382 km distance and took an overnight stop in Chandigarh. However, it is not a very difficult drive and you can easily complete the journey in one stretch in around 8-9 hours. The nearest railway station is Kalka, about 110 km from Naldehra, from where you can easily hire a local taxi.

Tariff: INR 7000 onwards depending on the category of rooms and the season
