3 great lakeside cafes I found in Udaipur

Hello guys, the past two weeks went by so quickly I barely had the time to update the blog or even my Instagram. After a lovely trip to Lucknow and then a rejuvenating staycation last month, I've got my next trip planned and have decided to finally tick off Taj Mahal off my bucketlist, next weekend. But before that, there's so much I have to tell you all about from old vacations. For instance, the three amazing lakeside cafes I discovered on my trip to Udaipur.

The two most popular lakes in Udaipur, Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar have a crazy number of cafes and restaurants surrounding them. Most of these cafes are pretty affordable and serve good quality food with an amazing view on the side.

1. Jheel Ginger Cafe & Bakery

Jheel is situated near Lake Pichola's Gangaur Ghat in an old haveli-style building. It is also a hotel that offers lake-facing rooms at pretty affordable prices. The cafe is situated on the rooftop and you'll have to climb about four flights of stairs but it's worth it. The food wouldn't blow your mind, especially if you're a spoiled Delhiite like me, but with that view and calming ambience, the food just happens to taste better!

What to try: Hazelnut frappe, wood-fired pizzas, masala omelette, white sauce pasta
Cost: INR 700 for two
Alcohol: Not Available
Address: 52, 56, Top Floor, Gangaur Ghat, Near Bagore Ki Haveli, Udaipur , Chandpole

2. Khamma Ghani Restaurant

This one is hidden in the narrow lanes of a residential colony and is impossible to spot if you're not looking for it. I loved the comfortable seating which is almost like you're dining on top of the Fateh Sagar lake. I do wish that the lake was a little cleaner though. They have a good selection of north Indian, Rajasthani and Chinese dishes. Service is a little slow so don't visit if you're in a rush. Great place to enjoy a beer or two while spotting the beautiful water birds.

What to try: Dal Tadka, veg fried rice, dal bati churma, chilly paneer, tandoori veg platter
Cost: 1000 for two
Alcohol: Available
Address: 63, Near Hotel Natural View, Yadav Colony, Rang Sagar

3. Rainbow Restaurant

We stumbled upon this one by chance. After a tiring shopping spree, we decided to cool off at Rainbow's pretty rooftop with beer and munchies, just because it was the closest restaurant around. I loved the quirky decor items made with  recycled bicycles and discarded auto parts. Ambience-wise, Rainbow offers good music, good crowd and a great view. They've got a nice, long breakfast menu in case you're looking for a good breakfast options around Pichola.

What to try: Coffee Nirvana (espresso shot in coconut milk), Greek salad, penne pesto
Cost: 1000 for two
Alcohol: Beer only
Address: 27-28, Lal Ghat, Pichola, Udaipur
